Airco DH2[1]

The Airco D.H.2 was a single seat biplane fighter developed in 1915.

The main aim of the aircraft was to combine high speed with the unobstructed use of a forward mounted machine gun. This had necessitated the employment of a 'pusher' engine mounted toward the rear, due to the absence of reliable synchronisation gear, which would allow machine gun fire between the blades of a forward mounted propeller.[2]
